Sheffield 4th May 2009
Heat 2: After coming into turn 4 waiting for the flag to drop I could not select 2nd gear so as the flag dropped I made a quick dart onto the infield, race over. Back to the pits to find the problem which was a bolt jamming on the gearbox which was put in the wrong way round on the gear linkage.
Consolation: Got going well then went a bit wide as someone was going up the inside of me and the fence jumped out on me. Car would not start so sat the race out in the bend.
We have had problems with the starter motor since we have had the car and it was jammed out so would not start the car. Was going to fix it at the track but we would have to had taken the exhaust off and kept burning my hands so it will have to be a workshop job and a new starter motor. So no Belle Vue. The car was handling well after a few tweaks and after the vist to the fence we had no damage so should be ready for next outing after a wash down.

Belle Vue 13th April 2009
Heat 1 got going well, new car is very quick but got too giddy and spun myself out, struggled to restart car but did in the end and finished 9th.
Cons. I got going quick was 1st or 2nd when someone spun out on the bend, I was too busy watching them and got it all wrong myself, race over as car would not start again.
GN was going well 35 Neil Shenton got past to take the lead and he got it a bit wrong into the corner and so did I and I collected him. Lost loads of places, race over really but got going again and got spun a few laps later and was sat on racing line and got a big hit from Dan Johnson whist facing the wrong way. Lots of damage but not out again until Sheff/BV double header so plenty of time too get things sorted. Was ready for spitting dummy but had 1 or 2 people tell me I should have had Ht1 or Cons the in bag but was just too heavy on right hand pedal so I've taken note of what they told me. The car handles great on the racing line but stray half a yard off it and it's game over for me but we are going to try and get this sorted for Sheffield.
cheers Stav

Coventry 4th April 2009
Got to Coventry, checking the car over and found the oil to be a bit watery with condensation, so did a quick oil change at the track. Ready for
Heat 2 outside front row with high expectations only for it to be over on lap 2, spun out and car would not start so race over. We bought a new battery as we thought we had forgot too charge the one on the car.
Consolation, outside front row, again high expectations but over lap 2 again as the car would not start after I had spun myself out. By now we are thinking it's the starter motor and not the battery that's the problem, so we get a new starter motor and when we took the old one off we saw the problem, hardly any teeth on the fly wheel so the car was packed away for the night. We have a couple of spare fly wheels so it will be sorted Tuesday night along with a few set up adjustments. All in all I put it down to same s***, different car.

AUSTRALIAN Championships. Archerfield, Brisbane: February 28th and March 7th 2009
1st nights racing Feb 28th Archerfield Brisbane
Heat 1: The track is made of clay and was very wet at the start of the meeting, I was going well then was spun out but finished the race about 10th.
Heat 2: 1st bend first lap and I was taken out. I was outside front row and got a puncture so had to sit the race out in the bend.
Heat 3: I was going well but then got electrical problems so limped home.
Heat 4: Still got electrical problems so I went out just to try and score points but got a puncture. I was a couple of laps down anyway.
The 2nd nights racing March 7th. Archerfield Brisbane
We replaced the coil, battery and some parts inside dizzy and the car was running fine or so we thought.
The first heat, continuing on from the previous Saturday, was heat 5 of the championship, and I got off to a good start but the car was misfiring so had to keep the revs high all the time which was hard going into the corners but I got about 6th.
Heat 6: Nothing could be done about the misfire and as no one had a timing gun, I had to go with what we had, but I got a 2nd place to Michael Scriven so we had a UK 1st & 2nd and was pleased with that.
Heat 7: I got going well and kept out of trouble getting a hard fought 4th just holding off a last bend attack from one of the Aussie drivers.
Heat 8 and the Aussie title race: Got going okay and was sat just behind the leading pack of 4 but about lap 5 got another puncture so again went to the infield and watched the race from there.

Kings Lynn 25th October 2008.
A Drivers View
The whites & yellows race was really wet on track so went steady for first few laps as did not want to spin myself out. By that time 307 had gone so enjoyed the race knowing big boys weren't coming and just got some laps under my belt. 6th out of 12 finishers.
Heat1: going well was about 6th or 7th then got spun so kept out off way and got some laps in again. 13th out of 14 finishers.
Consolation: got a good start and after Sheffield consolation cock up, when I realised there was only 10 cars left and as long as I finished I'd make the final, I just kept out of trouble and got 7th more than pleased. 7th out of 9 finishers
*** first final qualified for by merit ***
Final: after leading for a few laps got a big rattling noise so went wide and pulled of at 1st chance. Exhaust had fallen off. We were hoping not to have to put the new one on till end of season but never mind. 2 laps completed
GN: car sounding ruff because of exhaust so just kept out of way and got some laps in again. 17th out of 18 finishers
No damage to report, exhaust just wear and tear.
Got a blow out on trailer on way home and a big thanks to team 337, Waz and Ales for stopping and helping and FWJ for taking car to his as we only had 3 wheels on trailer again....! cheers stav

Sheffield 20th October 2008
Heat 1: Fought his way to the front, overhauled after 3 laps then dumped by Murray Harrison when in 2nd place,
recovered but finished well out of the points.
Consolation: Led for most of the race but with 3 to go was nudged intoa spin by Paul Hines, kept the foot down and came to a halt on turn 3 after being clouted by another car. Couldn't get the car started and sat out the remaining 3 laps with a bashed up o/s rear and a puncture. Good job he didn't stick the new Hoosier on.
GN: Led for a long time, rode good hits from Gibson and Newson, led Newson for several laps before being passed by a lot of red tops, finished in 8th, best place ever on shale, and 1 World Qualifying point to boot....
Overall Result: Massive success, great car set up (cheers Mark Gilbank) and best drive by far. Hopefully confidence leads to more success, the car is handling well, the kit is steadily improving and it shows.
First award won ....grade award collected at Sheff + cash.
Happy with that. Here's to more where that came from.

Belle Vue 12th October 2008
Ladies Charity Race: The car was lent to Ailsa Haigh who after a farcical start to the race, managed 5th in a large field of cars and brought it back in one piece.
Heat1: Steve was back in the car for the first time since December 1st at Birmingham last year. After a tentative start on a heavily watered track, Steve lost the back end three times in 5 laps and ended up trapped in the turn 2 ropes, from where he could watch the rest of the race in a front row seat.
Consolation: It was more of getting used to the car again after such a long lay off, but it seemed to be coming together, refusing to be intimidated, riding hits from higher grade drivers, although sliding down the field, managed to finish last (or 11th, it sounds better) in a race where more than ten cars failed to finish.
Grand National: Started behind FWJ, plan was to just follow him round and bobs your uncle. Not quite as easy as that, but competed okay, noticeable when blues tops caught up as they were more aggressive, finished the race just, clattering the fence on the last bend and getting it started again just before the red lights ended the race.
Now for Sheffield.....

Birmingham 1st December 2007
A rare tarmac outing in the shale car. 14th in the first heat and a lap down was the best result of the night. Coventry 3rd November 2007Ht2 finished 16th. Good to last the whole race undamaged for a change. Looked good. Only 291, 383, 242 & 105 had faster best lap times.
Consolation - got hooked up with two other cars, stuck on the edge of the infield with a**e end hangin out , got hit once but waved yellows came out for somone else and escaped to centre.
Grand National - Completed one full lap, spun on turn 4 then turned onto infield. More later.
Stav says: Ht1: Got caught up with 330 and lost a lot of ground, after we
got going again was happy with car and my driving. Cons: 238 came across me
and 47 (I think) rode up on his nerf rail. Stalled, not good with dodgy
starter motor so end of race. Got a good whack, hence stiff neck this morning.
GN: Got spun early, got back out but gear box stuck in 1st. Easy too fix but
had to get out of car, so pulled off to center green, no real damage to
report ready for Lings Lynn after a wash. (car not me)Kings Lynn 27th October 2007 MyLaps data
Ht1 - 13th (69) Steve Hattersley: Laps 14: best ave. speed 41.008mph best lap time 18.547 (winner: Lee Robinson - 43.827 mph best lap time 17.354)
Consolation - DNF (69) Steve Hattersley Laps 14: best ave. speed 43.310mph, best lap time 17.561 (winner Matt Newson 43.361mph, best lap time 16.767)
And how Stav saw it.....
"Ht1 first bend about 6 of us went fence bound, got back out spun
again, it was like an ice rink. Did well after that got 13th. Consolation was going well
was 8th on last bend on my own and went straight in to a stranded car that
I'd passed 3 times in same place (think I got too giddy at seeing the flag)
got a broken starter motor so could not get going again, we had bent a bolt
on the front axle that we tried replacing but no one had the right thread
as it was old type and nut was welded to the chassis so we loaded up and called
it a night."

Sheffield 22nd October 2007
Heat 1 went very well, a full race completed without any damage at all and Steve wasn't lapped. A success of sorts.Steve led for a few laps until eventual winner Andy Powell got past and by then the pack had closed and passed one by one. Heat 2 was going okay for 4 laps until a spin and then Steve was collected by another car then two red tops climbed over the front. The first hit sheared off the inside halfshaft flange bolts buckling the rim and causing the tyre to come off. The halfshaft problem signalled the end of the nights racing. Overall the car was going well and Steve looked to be handling it well and looked good from the terrace.

Belle Vue Sun 30th Sept 2007
Pretty disappointing: Ht 1 lasted 2 laps until taken out by a fellow white top into the 1st bend fence and stuck with him . The Consolation was even worse after just one full lap we were spun by and locked with another car on the racing line, taking a couple of hits until pushed by the 3rd hit onto the infield where the car stayed for the rest of the race
