Beddgelert. Place of the legend of Gelert the dog, a prince and a princess. Basically, dog kills kidnapper, prince sees blood thinks dog has killed child so kills dog, then reralises his mistake and buries dog under tree with honours.
Aberglaslyn. The Glaslyn river has to be one of the most beautiful in Britain, but when it is in spate it is a raging torrent. Salmon and Sea Trout are regular returnees to their places of birth.
Near Betws-y-Coed. As we approach Snowden on this road it always rains. There is always low cloud and hill mist. It's around here you see the odd person walking wearing orange or blue caghouls. Some are very odd.
Glaslyn Lake, Snowdonia. At the head of the Glaslyn Valley under the shadow of Snowden. The view here is deceptive, as you look down as you see the tiny farms below and then the enormity of the panorama becomes apparent.
Snowdonia from Talsarnau
From the plain of Harlech you can define the rugged mountain range that makes up Snowdonia.
Llyn Padarn, Electric Mountain. The water from this lake is pumped up the mountain to power the hydro electric power station which is built beneath the mountain. At the top of the mountain is another reservoir into which the water is pumped. Good eh?
Glaslyn Lake. The Afanc is a Welsh folklore monster that used to haunt a pool called Llyn yr Afanc, on the
river Conwy. It was lured from the waters by a maiden, and banished to Glaslyn
Lake on Mount Snowdon. Oooh!
A wall near Nant peris. From nearby Llanberis you can catch a train which will take you the 1150 metres up Mount Snowden. Saves walking up, giving you more time to go to the pub.
Portmeirion. A bloke called Clough Williams-Ellis built Portmeirion. He had a thing about architecture and especially some he had seen on Italy and on the shores on Garda and Como, so he built this village near Porthmadog.
Portmeirion. A bit more of this village. It is more famous for the filming of the 1967 cult series The Prisoner than for it's architectural history. The thing to remember though, is that real people live in these houses. So be discrete.
Traeth Bach, near Talsarnau.
Seen from Penrhyndeudreath
this is the estuary of Afon Dwyryd. It is a wonderful view at sunset.
